In North America, the Bobcat (Lynx rufa), occupies still today all its surface of distribution, which goes from the Canadian forest to the Mexican desert. A night hunter, it is exceptional to surprise it during the day as seen on this photograph. Usually, it remains hidden in the shade and leaves it to prospect its territory only after the twilight.

The Bobcat is not as fast as the prey as it drives out; therefore it attacks them by surprise while falling from a tree or a rock when they pass in the vicinity. In spite of its small size, it manages to kill prey that are ten times heavier than him.

The Puma (Felis concolor), is the largest cat to be found in North America. The huge range of this highly successful species also extends down into Central and South America, where its size is exceeded only by the Jaguar.

The size of the Puma varies considerably. The South American examples are much smaller than those from the United State and this one, from the far North in Canada, is one of the biggest types found.
