The Girl From Ipanema

One Note Samba

Tom was 36 years old, it was his first individual album and the one that
made him known in
Brazil and the world. For the mood and spirit of this album, the composer stayed very close to his melody lines, and used a unique deceptively simple one-note, right-hand style of playing. It's pure and great Tom Jobim !

Antônio Carlos Jobim, The Composer Plays, 1963

Tom first recorded this song for the 1967 LP Wave. Three years later Oscar Peterson, the Canadian piano great, gave his listeners this wonderful performance !

Chidren Games

Tereza My Love

" Children Games " was recreated from the soundtrack of the film " The Adventurers ", released in early 1970. It's a jazzy waltz, later retitled " Double Rainbow " when Gene Lees added lyrics in 1974. " Tereza My Love " was dedicated to Tom's wife at that time.

Stone Flower, 1970

Arquitetura De Morar

MPB, Brazilian regional music, Bossa Nova, sounds of nature, and classical music merge into each other and that gives Urubu, a mixture that rivals in sophistication and originality, and one of the major masterpiece of Tom's work. You must have it !

Urubu, 1976

  Minha Namorada

" Minha Namorada " composed by Vinícius de Moraes and Carlos Lyra, is sung by Vinícius et Miucha. It is a nice song, romantic and sensual.

Tom Jobim, Vinícius, Toquinho & Miucha, 1977

 Voce Vai Ver

Tom's readings of lyrics is moving even if we don't understand the language. The gem " Voce Vai Ver " (" You 'll see ") was recorded with his daughter Ana.

Terra Brasilis, 1980

Chega de Saudade

Águas de Março

Eu Sei Que Vou Te Amar

Double CD which comes from a LP recorded in 1987. Once the record was ready, many people heard Tom say that it was his favorite LP of all those he had made.

The Girl From Ipanema

Se Todos Fossem Iguais A Você

Recorded live at the Free Jazz Festival in São Paulo. Great !

Antônio Carlos Jobim and Friends, 1993

A Correnteza

Superb quartet formed by the great Tom's son, Paulo, and grandson Daniel, Caetano Veloso's cellist-arranger Jaques Morelenbaum and the nice voice of his singer-wife Paula. Daniel Jobim's voice and his discretion on piano remind us deeply of his grandfather.

Jobim Morelenbaum, 1999

The Girl from Ipanema from Nat King Cole can only swing delightfully. One can feel that wonderfull creature swaying walk that so much inspired Tom. This track comes from the album "RTL Jazz, La collection Nat King Cole ". Torrid!

The song Wave with its rare harmonic richness is one of my favorite composition. Here is Wave played by Oscar Peterson. You will like how this great Jazz piano player rolls onto this wave... This track comes from the double album "The Will to Swing". Fantastic!

Estate is a brazilian ballade about summer written by Bruno Brighetti and Bruno Martino with a lot of sensuality. It has wonderfully been performed by João Gilberto during the festival de jazz in Montreux of the 18 july 1985, and can be listen in his "Live in Montreux" album. But you have to listen what did the brillant and late lamented Michel Petrucciani in the album "RTL Jazz Collection". His Estate is torrid, and like a sun, is so dazzling that will shine for ever !

Brazilian Jazz

Finally, don't leave whithout listening to the fantastic Bola Sete's medley (1923-1987) recorded at the Monterey Jazz Festival in 1966:
Black Orpheus Medley - Manha De Carnaval/A Felicidade/Samba de Orfeu (18Mo)
This track comes from the album "Bola Sete at the Monterey Jazz Festival [LIVE]" and is a must have if you love Brazilian music and Jazz !

Two musiciens from Marseille (France) Jean Laporte (music) and Lucien Battaglia (lyrics) pay tribute to their favorite composeur Tom Jobim!
Hommage à Tom Jobim (4.2Mo)

Well, after all these great pros, let's leave a bit of space to the amateur now. You will find here some midi files from Charles, a Bossa Nova lover and a devoted admirer of Jobim's work !
